Money Saving Tips
We have some essential tips, which have been tried and tested, for saving money when you are shopping online:
- Be the first to know - Sign up for email newsletters from the major retailers. They often let their email subscribers know about their latest offers and up-coming sales 24 hours before everyone else.
- Use promotional codes - There are loads of promotional codes and discounts out there; some may be sent to you via email, some in the post with catalogues and some can be found on money-saving websites.
- Find new customer deals - Often, if you have never shopped with a company before, they will offer a new customer discount. If you can't find a promotional code, email the company and ask what they can offer you as a new customer.
- Spread the word - Check message boards where people are exchanging tips and ideas on online shopping and tell your friends if you find a good deal online then they will get into the habit of telling you too.
- Use price comparison & review sites - There's more information in our Price Comparison and Product Review Sites sections on examples of these sites and what they can offer consumers. It's worth spending a little while checking out the cheapest prices and researching the best products.
- Become a loyal customer - Many sites have loyalty card schemes where you can amass points every time you shop with them. Points can be used as discounts against future purchases. You will also be sent details of special offers and discounts.
- Look for cashback sites - A new breed of discount websites offer a small cashback on any purchases you make through their site. Take a look at Topcashback or Quidco to get cashback on your online purchases from selected retailers.
Online grocery shopping
Supermarkets are especially keen to get you shopping online and often offer discounts for new customers. Research shows that we spend considerably less on the weekly shop when we buy online - less of a chance for impulse purchasing perhaps! Try one of the major supermarkets online and you may be pleasantly surprised.
We calculate that buying your groceries online and paying for delivery is still cheaper than driving to the supermarket, paying for petrol and maybe paying to park. If you are registered with an online supermarket but haven't shopped with them for a while they may well try to tempt you back with money-off vouchers and free delivery offers.
At ShoppersGuides we receive a lot of requests for more information on supermarket shopping online. We have set up a site dedicated to providing more information at Online Grocery Store which will give you loads more information including online supermarket reviews, delivery charge information, delivery times available and much more.
